Featherstun Memorial Altrusa Scholarship http://www.ncfmhc.org/news/details/ID/17 Thu, 28 Dec 2017 12:00:00 EST Thursday, 28 December 2017 12:00:00 EST Altrusa International of Martinsville and Henry County chose New College Foundation and New College Institute as the recipient of their scholarship memorializing a distinquished member of their service organization and the community, Patricia A. Featherstun. Featherstun was a mathematics teacher at Martinsville High School for over thirty years. After retiring, she continued to work with young people in the area by tutoring and serving as a math coach and commissioner for academic competitions. The community benefited from Featherstun’s untiring spirit as a member of Piedmont Arts Association and the American Cancer Society. Over the years, she served as a president and treasurer for the local Altrusa organization and as treasurer for Altrusa’s District Two. The scholarship will benefit a Martinsville or Henry county resident enrolled in an education program at NCI and will be awarded in the spring of 2018. http://www.ncfmhc.org/news/details/ID/16 Foundation Awards Scholarships http://www.ncfmhc.org/news/details/ID/16 Thu, 28 Dec 2017 12:00:00 EST Thursday, 28 December 2017 12:00:00 EST New College Foundation recently awarded $52,500 in scholarships for the 2017-18 academic year to twenty-four (24) students enrolled in NCI programs through Longwood and James Madison universities. The awards were made possible by generous donors who have contributed thirteen endowed scholarships. Students who received awards are enrolled in Longwood’s Elementary Education and Social Work programs and JMU’s Education Leadership Endorsement Program. The foundation will begin another scholarship cycle in the spring for the 2018-19 academic year. Look for details coming soon.
